McDowell's Signature Club Golf Championship from tomorrow

Bangalore, Oct 6 (UNI) Over 4,000 golfers, representing 30 top golf clubs from 20 cities across the country, will be seen in action at the first leg of the fifth McDowell's Signature Club golf tournament to be held at Bangalore Golf Course and Eagleton Golf Village here from tomorrow.

For the first time, Asia's leading professional golfer Jyoti Randhawa was associated with the championship, the finals of which would be held in Malaysia, according to a release here today.

The championship would be played in three-tier format, with the first stage held at all 30 clubs, where members of each participating club play amongst each other to select the 'Club Team'. To allow for wider participation by the best golfers and beginners, there were three handicap categories 0-8 (played on Gross Stableford format), 9-16 and 17-24 (played on 3/4th Nett Stableford format). The winners and runners-up from each handicap category form the six-member club team.

The second stage was the regional finals, where each club team battled it out against other clubs in the region to decide the regional champion. The four regional finals would be held at the Karnataka Golf Association Course (October nine), Bombay Presidency Golf Club, Mumbai (October 23), Golden Greens Golf Resort, Gurgaon, (November six) and Royal Calcutta Golf Club, Kolkata (November 20).

Four regional champion golf clubs would play against each other for the McDowell's Signature Champion Golf Club of India 2006.

The Southern region comprised of Bioson Environmental and Training Area, Hyderabad, JC Wadiyar Golf Club, Mysore, Karnataka Golf Association, Eagleton Golf Resort and Bangalore Golf Association (all Bangalore), Coimbatore Golf Club, Coimbatore, and Madras Gymkhana Club, Chennai.

Over 150 members from the Bangalore Golf Course and over 100 members from the Eagleton Golf Village would vie for the six spots at the championship, managed by Tiger Sports Marketing.
