K'taka Govt sanctions Rs 183 cr for rural drinking water project
Bangalore, Oct 6 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has sanctioned Rs 183 crore last week for the rural drinking water supply project, covering 11 districts, Rural Water Supply Minister S A Ravindranath said today.
Talking to reporters here, he said the Government had released Rs 139 crore in the first phase of the Rs 400 drinking water project.
He would take action to release the remaining funds for the project after completing a study tour of the covered districts next month.
Mr Ravindranth said his ministry had recommended 127 Gram Panchayats for the Centrally-sponsored Sampoorna Swachata Yojana.
The Centre, in its effort to promote cleanliness in rural areas, had earmarked Rs four lakh for each panchayat which excelled in the endeavour and completed it on time.
The Minister, also holding the Sugar portfolio, said today's meeting in connection with hike in sugar prices was inconclusive.
The Chief Minister would take a final decision, he added.
