Kerala HC directs Govt. to file report on cleaning of public places
Kochi, Oct 6 (UNI) The Kerala high court today directed the state government to file a report within four days on steps taken to clean up public places in view of the threat of Chikungunya.
A division bench consisting of Chief Justice V K Bali and Justice P R Raman gave this direction when two separate petitions came up before it on this issue.
It posted further hearing on both petitions to October ten.
Ms G.Vidya, a resident of the worst-hit Cherthala taluk in Alappuzha district, sought a direction to the state government to take proper steps to clean the canal and public places in Cherthala with the help of the army and NGOs.
She also sought a direction to the government to provide proper preventive measures in the affected area.
Another petitioner, the Centre of Consumer Education, sought immediate preventive measures to check the spread of Chikungunya and also directions to the Kochi Corporation to dispose the garbage and solid waste, clean the drains and undertake a mosquito eradication drive.
The court directed the Kochi Corporation to file a report regarding the status of disposal of garbage and solid waste.
