Kalam likely to inaugurate 'Suvarna Grama Yojana'
Mysore, Oct 6 (UNI) President A P J Abdul Kalam is likely to shortly unveil 'Suvarna Grama Yojana', a unique first of its kind initiative in the country, in Karnataka, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said today.
Speaking to reporters here, he said the scheme would be taken up in 1,000 villages spending a total of Rs 1,000 crore on the overall development of the villages. The scheme was initially scheduled for launch on October two, but postponed as the President had other engagements. Nearly 750 villages had been identified for the purpose.
Referring to the sound and light programme at the Mysore palace, Mr Kumaraswamy said the script prepared by the tourism department was objected to by the scion of the erstwhile Mysore royal family Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar as there was no reference to the royal family. He had recently discussed the issue with Mr Wadiyar and an Experts Committee would be constituted to go into it.
The Chief Minister continued his tour of Chamundeswari Assembly constituency for the second day today, participated in various developmental programmes and laid the foundation stone for new programmes in another ten villages.
Speaking after launching various development projects at Ramanahalli, Ayuarahalli and Devalapura, Mr Kumaraswamy said the Government would request three garment industries to open in Mysore so that employment opportunities would increase not only for men, but also for women.
He announced Rs 5,000 each to the 1,500 families at Ramanahalli village so that they could take up some business.
