GEA urges Govt to ensure early withdrawal of strike by cargo agent

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Garment exporters have urged the government to ensure immediate withdrawal of strike by Cargo Agents at inland container depot (ICD); Tughlakabad, which entered the fourth day today adversely hampering the export shipments.

Mr Vasdev Loond, President of Garment Exporters Association (GEA) pointed out that strike has hit the exporters very hard as they are not able to honour their delivery schedules.

Mr Loond further said, ''The international market is very sensitive and competitive and if shipments do not reach within the stipulated time, there will be lot of cancellation of orders and substantial loss to the exporters''.

The strike has created difficulties for the garment exporters to dispatch consignments of readymade garments to their overseas buyers, he added.

GEA President also appealed the Cargo Clearing Agents to avoid agitational approach and sort out their problems through negotiations with the concerned authorities.
