CPAI mourns legend's death
Hyderabad, Oct 6 (UNI) The Chess Players Association of India (CPAI) today mourned the death of freedom fighter and Chess legend V G K Murthy.
In a press release here the Association said, Murthy was survived by his wife, a daughter and two sons.
Murthy was the founder member of the AP Chess Association and later became its Secretary. He wrote many books on chess and yoga.
He trained many celebrities like Lanka Ravi, Koneru Ashok and P Harikrishna to name a few.
During the freedom struggle, he was incarcerated in the Bellary jail in 1944 for an year.
After the country attained the freedom he became interested in weight lifting and won the national championship in under 19 category in 1952.
From 1953, he took interest in chess and devoted his entire life for the game.
