Candidates attack Army recruitment camp, 4 cops injured
Kalpetta, Kerala, Oct 6 (UNI) Four policemen sustained injuries in an attack by an unruly mob of job aspirants at an Army recruitment camp at Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad district today.
Police said as per prior advertisement, thousands of job seekers from all parts of the state flocked here since last night for the recruitment drive for general category soldiers.
But on reaching at the camp early in the morining the Army authorities had announced that those with NCC 'C' certificate and eligible for servicemen/ex-servicemen quota could be considered for recruitment prompting the aspirants to pelt stones injuring the policemen on duty.
The army authorities later said the recruitment was announced for the special category and what appeared in newspapers could be an error.
The candidates, however, alleged that in the past also the Army had cancelled the recruitment drive following the arrival of a large number of job seekers.
Window panes of an Army vehicle and police jeep were damaged in stone throwing, police said.
Later the police chased away the mob from the scene.
