BSNL to provide GSM mobile service to villages
Mysore, Oct 6 (UNI) The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, Mysore division, has come out with an ambitious plan to provide GSM mobile service to all the villages with a population of over 1,000 people.
Speaking to newspersons here, BSNL Mysore division General Manager T K Chandrashekar said there was a plan to install 47 additional towers in various parts of Mysore telecom district, comprising Mysore and Chamarajanagar revenue districts, for the purpose.
He said the BSNL was committed to improve the coverage of all services to far flung pockets of the country and was in the process of finalising the largest-ever GSM mobile tender. There were about 75,000 GSM mobile customers in these two districts, serviced through 77 base stations including 38 in Mysore city.
It was proposed to extend broadband services right up to the taluk level within the next six months, he added.
