BJP for peaceful settlement of ULFA problem in Asom
Guwahati, Oct 6 (UNI) The BJP today appealed to the Union and state governments to adopt a ''give and take policy'' in solving the ULFA problem.
Addressing newsmen here, state BJP president Indramani Bora said, ''People of Asom want peace, which has been eluding for a long time now. Both government and the rebel organisation should contribute towards creation of a peaceful atmosphere and settle the issue across the table peacefully.'' He said the BJP national leaders had already made it clear that violence was no solution to any problem. ''We want peace in the state and hence appealed to both government and ULFA to come forward for a peaceful negotiated solution to the insurgency problem in the state,'' he added.
ULFA had already shown their interest in the talks with the government by appointing a Peoples Consultative Group (PCG), which held three rounds of talks with the Centre. ''After that, asking for a formal letter from the rebel group is meaningless,'' he said.
He also said the reported threat issued to the leaders of ruling Congres by the ULFA was also ''unfortunate''. Both sides should shun violance and come for a negotiated settlement of the issue, he reiterated.
