Apologise for attacking police, Congress tells BJP

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) The Congress today condemned the unruly behaviour of the activists of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, BJP's youth wing, in attacking police officers engaged in the security of Opposition Leader L K Advani during his visit to Bhopal yesterday and demanded an apology from the BJP as well as action against those guilty.

Congress Spokesman Abhishek Singhvi told reporters here that the BJP and its youth wing,"who were known for their instinct for resorting to violence in the past, had of late started targetting the guardians of law. The BJYM President had been shown on the TV assaulting a police officer deployed in the security of Mr Advani at Bhopal." Under the "BJPgiri" -- BJP culture, which spoke highly of their own "word, deed and action, the real face of the BJP men had come out when their men shamelessly attacked and beat up a police officer on duty,'' he said.

Mr Singhvi charged that the BJYM activists in their utter frustration were showing their violent tendencies coming on the streets and said the Congress would not allow Madhya Pradesh to be converted into another Gujarat.

Calling the BJYM's behaviour as totally unjustifiable action of violence, he said the country had often been witnessing such actions on the part of the BJP at many places in the country which showed that it had no respect for the rule of law.
