55 lift irrigation schemes to create 65,000 acre ayacut: Minister

Visakhapatnam, Oct 6 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Lift Irrigation Minister M Mareppa today said 55 lift irrigation schemes being implemented in the state for the benefit of small and marginal farmers will create a fresh ayacut of 65,000 acre.

Talking to presspersons here, Mr Mareppa said the schemes allotted for Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam Districts would provide irrigation facility to more than 10,000 acre.

Later, he reviewed the progress of the schemes in the three north coastal districts in the last two years. The Minister said the state government would soon constitute regional planning boards to deal with the problems of developmental imbalance.
