3 killed, 3 seriously injured in a gas leakage in GIDC

Vadodara, Oct 6: Three labourers were killed and as many admitted to the hospital in a critical condition following leakage of toxic gas from a chemical factory in the Ankleswar GIDC, about 100 km from here last night.

Police said the victims, all labourers of the chemical unit, died in sleep ABOUT 0200 hrs inhaling hydrojen sulphide.

The deceased included a couple-- Jitendra Prasad (36) and his wife Usha (30) and another labourer Mahesh Mala (27).

The couple's 10-year-old son Babu was among the three others admitted to a private hospital at Ankleswar with serious respiratory problemS.

Sources said a toxic reaction was caused following leakage of sodium hydro sulphide from a storage tank into a drainage carrying waste acidic water of the factory. Bharuch district superintendent of police G S Malik and an FSL team rushed to the spot.
