14-day special expo 'Silk Fab-2006' starts

New Delhi, Oct 6 (UNI) Exquisite handloom silk from 11 states are on display and sale at a 14-day special expo 'Silk Fab-2006', an exhibition-cum-sale of exclusive silk products that opened here from today.

A wide range of silks covering mulberry, tassar, era, muga and other silk products are available for sale at the Pragati Maidan venue till October 19.

The exhibition is being organised by the Textiles Ministry for the benefit of the handloom weavers and consumers.

Products of about 60 agencies from eleven states are on sale. The first exclusive silk exhibition was organised in the national capital in 1996.

Given the potential, price and importance of the item range and high value, the organisers are of the view that silk handloom requires a different approach for providing market support.

Based on the sales turnover and feedback of participants, it has been decided to make Silk Fab an annual feature.
