Work on integrated tech park underway in varsity: Chancellor

Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu, Oct 5 (UNI) The Annamalai University is working on the Rs 25 crore integrated IT, Biotech and Food Technology Park to help industries develop their products, University Vice Chancellor L B Venkatrangan said.

In his annual report on the occasion of 74th convocation of the university yesterday, Dr Venkatrangan said the complex will house Biotech, IT, Nanotech and Food Tech Park. This will help the region, students and researchers and pave way for industry-institution linkage.

The university had also selected as the venue for the 94th Indian Science Congress to be held from January three to seven next year.

''About 5,000 scientists across the country and abroad are expected to participate in the event,'' he added.

Delivering the convocation address, Former Madras University Vice Chancellor S Sathikh said, ''You are a fortunate lot, for you are among the 8.6 million out of the 1,000 million of our national population, a mere 0.8 per cent, who has this opportunity to get higher education. This means that each of you are responsible for 125 people of the nation.'' He also pointed out that the University had carved a niche of its own in nurturing great thinkers and leaders. It had also created a galaxy of politicians, including Former President R Venkatraman, State Ministers K Anbazhagan, Ponmudi and Thangam Thennarasu.

Chancellor of the University and State Governor Surjit Singh Barnala urged the young graduates to climb the podium with a smile and receive their medals and certificates.

University Founder Pro-chancellor and Rajya Sabha MP M A M Ramaswamy was also present on the occasion. As many as 1,306 students of 66,387 students who completed the courses received their degrees from Mr Barnala.
