UP urban local bodies notification challenged in HC

Lucknow, Oct 5 (UNI) A writ petition today challenged the Uttar Pradesh urban local bodies notification before the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court.

A division bench comprising Justices Pradeep Kant and O N Khandelwal posted the case for hearing tomorrow.

The petitioner, Premchandra Sharma, contended that under the constitution, there was no provision of mayor and deputy mayor posts in the local bodies including nagar panchayats, nagar palikas and nagar nigams.

The petitioner maintained that the constitution only allowed the post of chairperson in the local bodies.
