UP to maintain heat on corrupt PWD engineers
Lucknow, Oct 5 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government today asserted it would take action against corrupt PWD engineers, despite protests.
State PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav said here the government would continue to lodge FIRs and send to jail, the officials found involved in corrupt practices in road building and other construction works.
The state government had recently lodged a series of FIRs against PWD officials in Rae Bareli and Lakhimpur Kheri districts.
AICC president and Rae Bareli MP Sonia Gandhi had recently protested shoddy road construction in her constituency.
To a poser, Mr Yadav said the action aggainst erring engineers and contractors was taken much before Ms Gandhi's outburst.
''There are roads in Rae Bareli, which have been constructed following the best standards...work is on to assess faulty and poor construction and action would be taken. We want UP to have world class roads,'' he added.
