Two women die of suspected dengue, Govt denies dengue-deaths

Chandigarh, Oct 5 (UNI) Punjab government today claimed there had been no death due to Dengue and the situation was under control in the state even as unconfirmed reports said two women in Ferozpur district succumbed to the disease yesterday.

The sources in Ferozepur said a pregnant Ranjit Kaur, of Talwandi Nepal village, died on way to Ludhiana for treatment while Surjit Kaur of Varpal village died in the private hospital in nearby Mallanwal township where she was admitted with high fever.

Meanwhile in Chandigarh, state Health Minister Surinder Singla, while addressing a high-level meeting of the State Task Force to review the latest dengue situation in the state, said a multi-disciplined approach is required for preventing the spread of dengue fever in Punjab.

The state government has asked all the departments concerned to ensure cleanliness and check unhygienic surroundings all over the state. In addition, awareness campaign be intensified for the prevention of this deadly disease, specially in the rural areas, he said.

Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare D S Guru, said the instructions to all the Civil Surgeons of State have been issued to make announcements from public places like shrines and community centres and Rapid Response Teams have been constituted in the department to visit the affected areas.

Medical teams upto the levels of primary health centres have also been set up to carry out surveillance in the identified high risk areas, Blood banks have been instructed to arrange adequate quantity of plasma to meet any emergency situation in the state, said Mr.
