Tata Sky aims at one million customer base by Aug 2007

Kolkata, Oct 05 (UNI) Satellite television service provider Tata Sky Ltd is aiming at one million subscriber base by August 2007.

Tata Sky, an 80:20 joint venture between Tata and Star, has already garnered two lakh subscribers till now, managing director and CEO Vikram Kaushik said here today.

The company has earmarked Rs 3,000 crore capital expenditure over the next four to five years for product offering development and technology upgradation, Mr Kaushik said while launching the company's service here.

Within eight weeks since the launch, Tata Sky's offering include 100 popular television channels and eight interactive services. The distribution has been expanded to 3500 cities during the period.

The initial investment for the subscriber would be around Rs 4,000 and the introductory monthly subscription rate has been fixed at Rs 200. The company would charge Rs 75 for every film on demand to be beemed to the subscribers.

Tata Sky would fix future pricing based on the ruling on Conditional Access System (CAS) and market dynamics, Mr Kaushik said.
