SP fields ex-BJP MLA as candidate for Kanpur mayor seat
Lucknow, Oct 5 (UNI) In a surprise move, the ruling Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh today fielded a former BJP MLA as its candidate for the post of mayor in the industrial city of Kanpur.
SP general secretary and state PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav said the party had decided to field Neeraj Chaudhury, a three-time BJP MLA from Generalganj assembly seat in Kanpur for the post of mayor.
Incidentally, Mr Chaudhury had left BJP today itself and was inducted into SP.
Meanwhile, the party also announced S C Hassan as its mayoral candidate for Moradabad. From Meerut, the party has now decided to field Leelavati Swarankar. Yesterday, the SP had announced it would field Khurshida Ansari from the seat.
