Sena-BJP alliance on brink of break up

Mumbai, Oct 4 (UNI) The 22-year-old Shiv Sena-BJP alliance has come on the brink of break up on the issue of claiming the seat of Chimur in Vidarbha in the forthcoming by-elections, which are scheduled to be held soon.

According to sources in Shiv Sena, a meeting of senior Shiv Sena leaders including party chief Bal Thackeray, Executive President Uddhav Thackeray, former Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi and others was held at Matoshri, the Sena chief's residence in suburban Bandra.

In the meeting, it was decided that in the situation where both the parties are staking their claim for the Chimur constituency where by-elections are scheduled to be held, the alliance should be snapped. However, the meeting also decided that the final decision on the issue will be taken and announced by the Sena chief himself within a couple of days.

Meanwhile, when contacted, Maharashtra BJP president Nitin Gadkari told UNI that the BJP had maintained its claim on the seat in the by-election and added that as a party, the Sena was free to take their own decision.
