SAD (A) launches online 'campaign' against Navjot Sidhu

Fatehgarh Sahib, Oct 5 (UNI) Simranjit Singh Mann-led Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) has launched an online 'campaign' against BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu asking him to stop RSS interference in Sikh religious affairs.

The 'campaign', an online petition by Prof Jagmohan Singh, General Secretary and Spokesperson, posted on the party's website against cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Sidhu, had already been signed by 178 persons, the party today said.

The letter claims that Mr Sidhu, as an elected member of the parliament from Amritsar, had been unable to achieve anything for the constituency and belonged to a party which ''is the descendant of the Jan Sangh, the political arm of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and the Arya Samajists, who were forerunners in the denigration of Sikh ideals, Sikh ethos, the Punjabi language and everything else close to the hearts of the devout Sikhs of Punjab.'' The letter also accused Mr Sidhu of being ''in cohorts with Parkash Singh Badal'', and of ''meddling in the religious affairs of the Sikhs'' and trying to ''influence the Jathedar of Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Joginder Singh, to withdraw the non-cooperation edict against the Rashtriya Sikh Sangat'' It also took potshots at Mr Sidhu's avtar as humorist on the Indian television saying ''your laughter in the anti-womanhood, anti-minority TV show is disdainful, indiscreet and highly despicable'' and declared ''We are determined to have the last laugh.''
