Punjab govt accords approval to 35 mega projects

Chandigarh, Oct 5 (UNI) The Punjab government today approved 35 new mega projects worth Rs 6255.15 crore that would provide employment to about 55,000 persons.

These projects include 22 industrial, nine agro and four housing and township projects.

This decision was taken in a meeting of the Empowered Committee held here under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

The committee also discussed two super mega projects-- Film City and Industrial Park that were submitted by Emaar MGF Land Pvt Ltd.

Both these projects are to be set up at Mohali.

The committee decided that both these projects would be brought before the Council of Ministers for consideration.

The Empowered Committee also approved four manufacturing projects to be set up in Ludhiana, Bathinda and Jalandhar district with an investment of Rs 551.70 crore.

The committee had also approved six Industrial Park projects in Nawanshahar and Mohali district with an investment of Rs 2756.15 crore and generating total employment to 7000 persons. One project of SEZ Textile Park in Ludhiana district with an investment of Rs 250 crore with employment potential of 12,000 persons was also approved.
