People bid a tearful adieu to ex MP Kesharkaku at Beed

Beed, Maharashtra, Oct 5 (UNI) Hundreds of people bid a tearful adieu today to the three time Member of Parliament, Ms Kesharkaku Kshirsagar, who was cremated at the SKH Medical College Ground here with full State honours in the presence of prominent leaders including Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil.

Kesharbai Kshirsagar (78), popularly known as Kesharkaku died at the Mumbai's Bombay Hospital at 0745 hrs yesterday.

The body was brought to the city last evening from Mumbai and was kept at their family residence to enable the people to pay their last respect.

Other prominent personalities those were present at the funeral included Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, District Guardian Minister Vimal Mundada and Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde.

Kesharkaku's youngest son Dr Vitthal Kshirsagar lit the funeral pyre.

Mother of former Maharashtra Energy Minister Jaydatta Kshirsagar, late Kesharkaku was associated with several public institutions inclding education.

Born on March 30, 1927, at Vijapur in neighbouring Karnataka, Kesharkaku's political career began in 1962 when she was elected as Sarpanch of Navgan Rajuri gram panchayat in this district.

She was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from the Chausala Assembly constituency in 1972.

Later she was elected to the Lok Sabha for three consecutive terms from Beed district in 1980-84, 1984-89 and 1991-1996.

Later, Ms Kesharkaku joined the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) since its inception.
