Paddy arrival picks up in Haryana mandis

Chandigarh, Oct 5 (UNI) The arrival of paddy is picking up in the mandis of Haryana with 7.62 tonnes of crop already reaching the grain markets.

Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Chander Mohan, who holds the Food and Supplies portfolio, said that out of the total paddy arrival, 5,93 lakh metric tonnes had been procured by five government agencies at the Minimum Support Price.

The remaining 1.69 lakh tonnes had been purchased by private millers and traders, which included 96,860 tonnes leviable and 72,655 metric tonnes non-leviable.

Mr Chander Mohan said the Food and Supplies Department had procured 2,01,196 tonnes of paddy, followed by the Haryana State Co-operative and Marketing Federation Ltd, popularly known as Hafed with 2.58 lakh tonnes, Federation of Consumers Cooperative Wholesales Stores Ltd (Confed) 38,393 metric tonnes, Haryana Agro-Industries Corporation 72,867 metric tonnes and Haryana Warehousing Corporation 20,263 metric tonnes.

He said the Kurukshetra district was leading with 2,15 lakh tonnes of paddy, followed by Karnal with 1,82,459 tonnes, Fatehabad 1,30,564 metric tonnes and Kaithal with 1,06,870 tonnes.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the Haryana government had arranged Rs 1,000 crore so that the payment of the farmers could be made within 48-72 hours.
