Mob storms office of MSEDCL, seven MSRTC buses damaged at Balapur
Akola, Oct 5 (UNI) An angry mob stormed the office of the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) at Balapur tehsil town in this district, ransacked furniture and took away important documents in protest against the undeclared load shedding in the tehsil town.
Later, the mob of about 600 to 700 people pelted stones and damaged seven Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) buses last night, according to police. However, nobody was injured in these incidents, police said.
The Peace Committee of the tehsil town had already urged the MSEDCL not to observe load shedding during the month of 'Ramadan' being observed by the Muslim community, which dominates the tehsil town. However, MSEDCL officials ignored the request of the Muslim community which resulted in unrest among the people belonging to minority community, the sources said.
Police had tough time to control the mob which went unruly over the issue of load shedding. Only three cops were on duty at the time of the incident. On information, police forces from nearby police stations rushed to the town and brought the situation under control. However, the situation is tense, according to police.
BJP MLA of Balapur Assembly constituency Mr Narayanrao Gawhankar visited the town last night and demanded immediate removal or suspension of Balapur city police chief, who allegedly is responsible for the untoward incident.
Police force has been deployed and senior police officials are camping in the disturbed town, police sources said.
