HC notices Raj Thackery for contempt of court
Mumbai, Oct 5: The Bombay High Court today issued show cause notice to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray to submit why action should not be initiated against him under the Contempt of Court Act.
A Division Bench comprising Justices B H Marlapalle and N H Patil was hearing a petition filed by the Indian Association of Peoples' Lawyers and Committee for Protection of Democratic Rights, alledging that Mr Thackeray had made a statement threatening lawyers not to defend the 7/11 blast accused, at a rally held at Shivaji Park on July 16.
The court has also directed the editors of four newspapers to file affidavit submitting statements of journalists who attended the rally indicating what they heard. The case will come up for hearing on November 7.
