Hair, Doctrove omitted from umpires' panel for Champions Trophy

Dubai, Oct 5 (UNI) Controversial umpires Darrell Hair and Billy Doctrove, who were involved in the recent ball-tampering fiasco, were omitted from a list eight umpires announced today by the International Cricket Council (ICC) to officiate in the Champions Trophy starting from Saturday.

The appointments cover 16 of the 21 matches in the 30-day tournament that is taking place from October 7 to November 7 at four venues -- Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Mohali and the Cricket Club of India in Mumbai.

The officials for the matches between England and Qualifier 2 in Ahmedabad on October 28 and India and Australia match in Mohali on October 29, as well as the two semi-finals -- to be held in Mohali on November 1 and in Jaipur on November 2 -- and the final will be announced later, an ICC release said.

The eight umpires named are all from the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Umpires while the three referees are selected from the Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Referees.

The ICC had already announced that Hair will not officiate in the mega event but had said nothing regarding Doctrove who stood along with the Aussie in the Oval Test between England and Pakistan which snowballed into the first forfeit of a Test in the history of the game.
