Family of five attemps suicide due to financial crisis

New Delhi, Oct 5 (UNI) Five persons of a family in Paschim Vihar area of West Delhi allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming phenyl due to financial troubles.

The family is presently recuperating at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital and is out of danger, said the police.

Virendra Sanyal (45) took phenyl along with his wife Rashmi (40), two daughters -- Ambika (18) and Radhika (16) and son Shivam (14) last night allegedly due to hounding of creditors, which included neighbours, friends and a bank.

Sanyal had taken a one crore rupee loan from Lord Krishna Bank and Rs 50 lakh from his friends and neighbours and was not in a condition to pay it back. He had even told the bank that he would end his life if it keeps hounding him on the recoveries.

Police also said it suspected the entire episode to be a drama staged by the family to prevent creditors from troubling them as medical reports said that very little phenyl had been consumed. ''He also has a fraud case registered against him earlier.'' A case of 'attempt to suicide' has been registered at Pashchim Vihar police station, police added.
