Existing water supply schemes being augumented, says CM
Shimla, Oct 5 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that the existing water supply schemes were being remodeled and augmented to meet the increasing demand for water as a number of sources were drying up resulting into irregular water supplies.
Addressing students, teachers, alumni of the Lawrence School, at Sanawar on its 159th Founder's Day, Mr Singh said yesterday that the Rs 51.46 crore Solan Augmentation Water Supply Scheme was likely to be made functional by the end of the next financial year.
Mr Singh said water shortage was likely to aggravate in the coming years and keeping this in the state government has already initiated steps to provide adequate drinking water supply to each village of the state.
Himachal was emerging as a favourite destination for tourists and their number visiting the state had surpassed even the total population of the state, he said.
The chief minister said Himachal was the first state in the country that was providing free education to the girls from KG to university level, he added.
