Centre to give spl attention on NE rural employment

Aizawl, Oct 05: The Centre has decided to pay special attention while implementing the Rural Employment Generation Programme (REGP) in the NE region.

During the first three years of the tenth plan about 5755 projects had been set up generating employment to 97060 people, official sources here today informed.

In 2005-06 (upto August 2006), about 828 projects worth Rs 397.53 lakh were set up that provided employment to 34,106 persons.

Besides, 27 exhibitions were organised upto September for the sale of products manufactureed by REGP entrepreneurs.

Concessional facilities were extended to the weaker sections of the region under the scheme, sources said.

About 30 per cent margin money instead of 25 per cent as in other areas was provided to the entrepreneurs to set up their projects in NE.
