Shimla, Oct 5 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Government today decided to provide ownership rights to residents of five revenue areas of Shimla Bazar, Krishna Nagar, Lakkar Bazar, Baoileauganj and Chhota Shimla, official sources today said.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting, held under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, here and would benefit 2,354 people, who own about 11.56 hectare land within the Shimla Municipal Corporation limits.

The sources said the land would be registered in their names on payment of 20 per cent of the market value of land or by selling the land at a rate of Rs. 2,000 per square meter, whichever was higher.

It would also provide an opportunity to the residents to surrender their right of possession to the state government, which was owner of the land as per the revenue record, or the Shimla MC on payment of equivalent charge by the government or MC, the sources said.

The Cabinet also approved an amendment in the notification issued by the Town and Country Planning Department on August seven, earlier this month, constituting the Special Area Development Authority (SADA) for Baddi, Barotiwala and Nalagarh areas.

The sources said the new authority would be named the Baddi-Batotiwala-Nalagarh Development Authority instead of the Special Area Development Authority and would have the Chief Minister as its Chairman, with ministers of Town and Country Planning, Urban Development and Industries as its members.
