BSNL to upgrade GSM network in Punjab

Chandigarh, Oct 5 (UNI) Punjab Circle shall get 5.2 lakh lines with 1546 BTSs in the first phase of BSNL's expansion plans, which entails upgrading its existing GSM network by another 60 million lines with latest state-of-the-Art 3G technology.

The expansion to be launched at the all India level has been planned in three phases, Chief General Manager (CGM) Rajinder Singh said here today while addressing reporters.

Refering to the Broadband Internet Service (Dateone), launched in March last year, Mr Rajinder Singh said that BSNL now plans to introduce Broaband-Multiplay Service. Forty three cities of Punjab shall be covered with broadband equipment having Multi Play facility in the first phase alongwith new Broadband capacity addition of 11,4000 lines.

This shall provide Multiplay services such as Video on demand, Video Multi cast (IP TV), VPN Service, High speed Internet Service etc with guaranteed control over all criticial performance parameters to ensure high grade service over DSL Lines, WLAN and Fiber to the Office/Home, he added.

Regarding subscribers of Excel Prepaid service, Mr Rajinder Singh said that the talk-time had been increased from Rs 30 to Rs 100 on a SIM card of value Rs 100 (plus taxes). This talk time is valid for seven days.

The talk time on the Rs 300 recharge coupon has been increased from Rs 175 to Rs 300.. This talk time is valid for 30 days.The talk time on Rs 2,000 Recharge Coupon has been increased to Rs 2200.

Validity also has been increased from 180 days to 365 days.

Mr Rajinder Singh said that for the benefit of Punjab Government employees, a plan has been introduced in CellOne Postpaid Mobile service. Under this plan, with a monthly rental of Rs 250, subscriber gets free talk time worth Rs 150 on CUG charges, free ultimated Voice/SMS within CUG.
