Bharatiya Janashakti party not to support Oct 9 bandh
Kolkata, Oct 5 (UNI) The West Bengal unit of Uma Bharti-floated Bharatiya Janashkti Party today decided not to support the October 9 dawn-to-dusk statewide bandh, called by the Trinamool Congress to protest the acquisition of land at Singur for Tata Motors project.
Party spokesperson Tapan Sikdar said the Trinamool Congress should resort to other forms of agitation to protest the acquisition of agricultural land for industrial projects in the state.
Supporting the issue of acquisition of agricultural land for industrial projects, Mr Sikdar said the Tatas should shift their projects to other areas which are not fertile.
The party, however, decried the way police allegedly acted on women when Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee went to Singur during the disbursal of cheques to the farmers for acquisition of land.
