Guwahati, Oct 5 (UNI) The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) today staged a dharna before the Raj Bhawan against resumption of army operation in the state and demanded that peace process be resumed immediately.

They also submitted a memorandum to the Governor Lt Gen (Retd) Ajay Singh urging him to seek Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's intervention. The AGP said Army operation would not bring lasting solution to the state's problem as peace is the most important requisite.

They alleged that the Army has been harassing citizens and their presence amongst the villages would further escalate tension in rural Asom.

AGP president Brindabon Goswami, party general secretary Chandra Mohan Patowary and leaders including Biren Baishya, Hiten Goswami and Apurba Kr Bhattacharrya were present on the occasion.
