Year long celebrations to mark Satyagraha centenary
New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) The Congress will organise year long nation-wide programmes to celebrate the centenary of Satyagraha observed by Mahatma Gandhi first in South Africa 100 years ago and create awareness among the people about the concept.
These programmes will include a national conference, cycle yatra from Sevagram Ashram to Porbandar, public meeting at every place connected with Satyagraha and Swasthya Abhiyan, AICC General Secretary Mukul Wasnik told reporters here.
Mr Wasnik said the Congress Working Committee had met on September 11 and adopted a resolution recollecting the role of Satyagraha in the freedom movement and rededicating its commitment to the noble ideal of Gandhiji.
Subsequently a committee was appointed to prepare the programes of Satyagraha. The Committee met several times thereafter and prepared a plan of action broadly acceptable to all. The Committee was headed by Mr A K Antony and included Mohsina Kidwai, Ahmad Patel, Janardan Dwivedi and Moti Lal Vora.
Mr Wasnik said 8 working groups and sub-groups have been apponted to draw up detail of the plan in the next one week. Mr Vora headed the group on khadi and village industries, Digvijay Singh on public meet, B K Hariprasad to coordinate cycle yatra, Anand Sharma to coordinate the national coference.
