Under-19 MCA selection tourney for Sportstar Trophy from Oct 10

Mumbai, Oct 4 (UNI) The 21st Sportstar Trophy 2006 to be held here from October 10 to November 2 will act as the Under-19 Selection Trial Tournament for the Mumbai Cricket Association.

According to a release here, the tournament to be played on a round robin basis will have four teams which will be selected by the MCA and named Vijay Merchant XI, Vijay Manjrekar XI, Dattu Phadkar XI and Khandu Rangnekar XI vying for top honours.

The points system for this tournament would be the same as per the BCCI Cooch Behar Trophy (Under-19) with four points for an Outright victory, two points for a team getting the First Innings Lead, but no outright victory, one point each for a match washed out or unable to be held due to weather interference, the release added.

The team winning by an innings or 10 wickets would also get an extra bonus point, while in case of a tie on the first innings without an outright result, both teams would get a point each and in case of a tie on both innings, the teams would get two points each.

The matches would be held at the Elf-Vengsarkar Academy (Oval Maidan) and Karnatak Sporting Association (Cross Maidan), with the umpires to be posted by the MCA Umpires' Sub-committee, the release further stated.

The total prize money for the tournament winner would be awarded the Sportstar trophy, while the man of the match for every match would get a gift voucher worth Rs 2000.

The player of the series would get the Ramakant Desai Trophy worth Rs 5000 and a cricket kit, while the best fielder would stand to take home Rs 1000, the release added.
