TRS announces KCR's name for LS bypoll, Cong, BJP also join
Hyderabad, Oct 4 (UNI) The Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) today resolved to field its Chief K Chandrasekara Rao for the Karimnagar Lok Sabha Seat even as the Congress and BJP asserted they would contest the seat.
The TRS, which pulled out of the UPA Government upset with the Congress Supremo Sonia Gandhi's 'continued silence' over the statehood issue, adopted a unanimous resolution urging Party Chief K Chandrasekara Rao to contest the bye-poll again.
Dismissing reports the Congress might not field candidate against Mr Rao, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajashekhara Reddy told newspersons at New Delhi the party high command would decide on the nominee at an appropriate time.
Dr Reddy expressed confidence that the Congress would win the byepoll hands down.
Turning down the TRS request to the BJP to support the party in the byepoll, BJP National Secretary B Dattatreya told reporters in Visakhapatnam the party would not have any truck with the TRS in the present situation.
It had decided to field Former Union Minister of State for Home Ch Vidyasagar Rao for the bye-election.
Well ahead of the bye-poll announcement, a meeting of the TRS State Executive and the Karimnagar District Committee held at the 'Telangana Bhavan' decided to embark on 'Palle Batta' (interactive visits to villages) from October six to take the statehood slogan to the over 1,200 villages in the constituency.
In Karimnagar, the TDP held an extended District Committee Meeting to chalk out the party's strategy for the polls allegedly imposed on the people by both the TRS and the Congress to settle 'political scores' between themselves.
