Survey on to collect information on Emergency victims: CM
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 4 (UNI) Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan today said the government was conducting a survey on the present condition of the victims, who were lodged in jails and faced torture by the police during the Emergency period.
He said the government would collect all informations regarding them and necessary directions in this regard had been given to jail authorities and other departments concerned.
If the survery did not get the desired result, the government would consider appointing a Judicial Commission for the purpose, he added.
Mr Achuthanandan said according to preliminary information, about 856 persons were in preventive custody in four different jails during that period in the state.
He also informed that the government would also consider providing pension to those who faced torture and jobs to the dependents of those who lost jobs during the Emergency period.
