Rajasthan, MP, UP leading states in implementation of PMGSY
New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh are the leading states in the implementation of 'Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana'(PMGSY), a hundred per cent Centrally-sponsored scheme, during the first quarter of the current fiscal year.
Rajasthan has completed around 4015 road works during the period, involving 1628 km at cost of over Rs 233 crore.
Rajasthan is followed by Madhya Pradesh, which completed 2962 works involving 941 km at a cost of Rs 232 crore, and Uttar Pradesh, which accomplished 2453 road works on 287 km at a cost of Rs 145 crore.
Other states having performed well in implementing the PMGSY during this period are Chhattisgarh (2005 road works), Orissa (1494), Andhra Pradesh (1404), Himachal Pradesh (1361) and West bengal (1220).
Official sources today said a total of 22891 road works were completed during April-June this year in 28 states, involving construction of 6,563.61 km of road length at a cost of Rs 1437.9 crore.
A major component of the Bharat Nirman programme, PMGSY has been launched to provide all-weather road connectivity to all villages with a population of 1000 (500 in case of hilly or tribal areas) by 2009.
During 2005-06, a total of 6414 road works were completed with the construction of 22,785.44 km at a cost of Rs 4091.66 crore.
