Qualcomm Inc Chair at IIT Madras

Chennai, Oct 4 (UNI) Qualcomm Incorporated, a leading developer and innovator of CDMA 2000, WCDMA and other advanced wireless technologies, today announced the establishment of a Qualcomm Chair at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras.

Qualcomm India and SAARC President Kanwalinder Singh told newsmen here the company's first academic donation in India was endowed by a grant of 1.75 lakh USD.

The grant will fund a Qualcomm Chair in the Electrical Engineering Department and bring reputed experts in wireless technology from all over the world to the institute besides providing engineering students at IIT here with an opportunity to learn and contribute to wireless innovations.

India was one of the fastest growing wirless markets worldwide and Qualcomm was focused on contributing to and fostering this growth.

Through their existing design centres in Hyderabad and Bangalore, and now, with the Qualcomm Chair, they have continued to increase their R and D presence here.

The establishment of chair was another step to building high-quality talent in the country, which, in turn, will encourage and sustain innovation in the Indian telecom industry, he added.
