PM to inaugurate platinum jubilee of NASI at IIT

Mumbai, Oct 4 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan singh will inaugurate the concluding session of the planinum jubilee celebrations of the National Academy of Sciences, India (NASI) on October six at the IIT Bombay convocation hall.

Awards including the NASI-Reliance industries platinum jubilee award, the NASI-Young scientist plantinum jubilee award and the NASI-Swarna jayanti puraskars will be given on this occasion, a release issued by IIT said.

The concluding session which features a symposium on 'Science and technology in the service of society' will be held on October six. A unique feature this year is the close association and participation from industry. Eminent speakers at the symposium include Mukesh Ambani, Prof P Balram, Dr R Chidambaram, Prof Asis Datta, Prof (Ms K A Dinshaw, Prof M G K Menon, Mr Narayana Murthy, Ajai Piramal, Prof C S Seshadri, Prof Manju Sharma, Prof M M Sharma.

The symposium is being organised with a view to highlight the contributions made by industry leaders scientists and eductionists to improve the quality of life and the challenges ahead. Special efforts have been made to involve students from a wide variety of educational institutions to attend the symposium and other activities to make them aware of the contributions of industry and scintists in nation building.

The other scientific sessions in two sections of physical and biological sciences will be held on October seven and eight. The physical sciences section will be presided over by Prof Suresh Chandra physics department of Banaras University while the biological science will be presided over by Prof Suman Preet Singh Khunja, a release added.
