Pasricha urges women to play important role

Mumbai, Oct 4 (UNI) Maharashtra Director General of Police (DGP) P S Pasricha has exhorted women to play an important role in development of the society, which is infested with threats of terrorism, law and order.

Speaking on the topic of 'police public relations' at a meeting of Puncham club run by women from affluent families in South Mumbai area at the Y B Chavan centre here yesterday, Dr Pasricha said women's role depends on how they groom their children, treat senior citizens and be alert to the security concerns in their neighbourhood.

Stressing that women were the pillars who made positive or destructive impact on society and families, Dr Pasricha urged women to ensure that their children are not affected by drug abuse and only the mothers can inculcate discipline regarding road safety and law and order in their children at young age.

''You may be broad-minded and allow your children to mingle freely with family friends. But you must ensure the welfare of your children especially girls. Studies show that in 80 per cent of the rape cases, the rapists are known to the victims very well,'' he warned.

''Trust your servants and at the same time do not allow them to fall to temptations. It is also observed that many murders, where servants are the accused happen because they have been ill-treated by their female employers,'' he pointed out.

Dr Pasricha said a topic on Community policing had been introduced in police training institutes all over the state. ''It is important to involve the public and know their aspirations. Without public support, the police are incomplete,'' he added.

He admitted that police have also been accused of rape.

''Incidents like the Marine drive and Sahar rape cases are abberations. Similarly, the case of three women from Nashik accused of killing infants in cold blood is also rare. Such things do not happen always,'' he added.

Later talking to reporters, Dr Pasricha said the police were making good progress in investigating the Malegaon bomb blasts.

''You will know the culprits soon,'' he added.
