Opposition stages walkout over Chikungunya
Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 4 (UNI) The Opposition in the Kerala Assembly today staged a walkout alleging that Health Minister P K Sreemathy declined to divulge the health policy of the Government in containing the outbreak of Chikungunya.
While replying to questions by K C Venugopal of the Congress, the Minister refused to make clear the Government stand in this regard in the beginning.
Agitating over the issue, the Opposition bench rushed to the well of the House, which forced the Speaker to adjourn the proceedings for some time.
However, after resuming the session after half-an- hour, the Minister did not clear her stand, which forced the Opposition to boycott the House.
Later, the Opposition staged a dharna in front of the Assembly gate.
More than 74 people died in the State with the symptoms of Chikungunya, a viral fever.
