Objectionable ad targets community

Patthalgaon, Oct 4 (UNI) A BJP leader and alderman were arrested here today in connection with an objectionable advertisement -- against a certain community -- beamed over a cable channel.

''The accused was identified as Mr Karamchand Agrawal. The situation is under control. The community was incensed yesterday over the ad, lodged a police complaint, took out a silent procession and staged a protest demonstration,'' said Superintendent of Police Hemkrishna Rathore.

An additional police force was stationed here today. Collector Durgesh Mishra met the community's members.

The matter assumed political hues with MP and former Chhattisgarh chief minister Ajit Jogi saying, ''it was an unfortunate attempt by the state BJP regime's representative to divide the community. A communal mentality is revealed and strict action ought to be initiated.'' UNI XC-AC SY KN2109
