No Chikungunya deaths in Tiruchirapalli

Tiruchirapalli, Oct 4: No deaths had occurred due to Chikungunya in Tiruchirapalli District, according to Tamil Nadu Government Drugs Control Director N Selvarasu.

In an official release here, Mr Selvarasu said he had reviewed the situation in several parts of the district and had discussions with officials of the Health Department and City Corporation.

The Health Department had initiated several preventive steps, including intensive fogging and anti-larval treatment in water bodies and eradication of mosquitoes causing the disease.

Awareness programmes carried out by the Health Department and prompt treatment of patients with symptoms had prevented the spread of the disease, the release added.
