NCP leader shot dead
Pune, Oct 4 (UNI) A Nationalist Congress Party(NCP) leader was shot dead by eight unidentified assailants while he was travelling in a vehicle in Kothrud area of Pune city this morning.
Police said that Sandeep Mohol(30), resident of Mota Village in the district was recently nominated to the post of Vice President of the Labour Wing of the NCP Party.
He was coming to the city when eight unidentified assailants intercepted the Scorpio belonging to a private tourist company. One of the assailants broke open the windows with a chopper while another fired five bullets at him, killing him instantly. Mohol was accompanied by four others who escaped unhurt in the attack.
Police is investigating the motive behind the attack. ''The murder could be politically motivated or a result of a gang war'', police said adding that Mohol had eight offences registered against him including kidnapping, extortion, and offences under the arms act in the past three years. A case has been registered against the unidentified assailents and further investigations are on, police said.
