Mettur Dam level falls below 100 ft mark after 428 days
Tiruchirapalli, Oct 4 (UNI) After setting a new record of maintaining more than 100 feet storage for a continuous 428 days, the water level in the Stanely Reservoir at Mettur across River Cauvery fell to 99.960 feet this evening.
A senior PWD official told 'UNI' here tonight the Stanley Reservoir had a sustained storage of more than 100 feet for a continuous 428 days till today.
The water level fell below 100 feet this evening due to stepped up discharge for irrigation.
The dam reported surplus water for 38 of the 72 years in existence. Last year alone, it overflowed four times creating a new record.
The water level stood at 99.960 feet, this evening as against its full capacity of 120 feet. The inflow was 8,199 cusecs and the discharge 18,000 cusecs.
