Meghalaya govt against harassment of innocent citizens
Shillong, Oct 4 (UNI) Meghalaya police here today said it does not encourage harassment of innocent citizens by substitutional arrest or secret elimination of the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) cadres.
Reacting to the allegation made by HNLC, the Police department clarified that neither the government nor the police department would allow harassment of the innocent citizens.
However, the police department reiterated that it would deal with the militants within the parameters of the law in force.
Earlier, the HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw, in a statement issued to the vernacular dailies here, alleged that the police, along with the surrendered HNLC cadres had killed two brothers here.
Mr Nongtraw claimed that the police have killed the brothers on account of their failure to arrest younger brother who is a member of the millitant outfit.
