MCD directed to prevent stray cattle from streets during festivals
New Delhi, Oct 4 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to take extra vigil in preventing stray cattle from the streets during the festival season.
A division bench of acting Chief Justice Vijender Jain and Kailash Gambhir directed the MCD authorities to take extra caution during the festival season so that public was not attacked by stray cattle.
Advocate Namita Roy in an application sought direction to the authorities to take precaution as throusands of stray cattle roam around the streets of the capital.
While fixing November 15 as the next date of hearing, the court directed the authorities to ensure that the plots were allotted to the genuine dairy owners to keep the cattle.
The Court asked the Committee headed by L C Jain to verify the authenticity of the allottees before handing over the possession of the plots.
Mr L C Jain submitted a status report on the state of affairs on goshalas and stray cattle.
The report stated that 15,000 more stray cattle had been impounded and sent to goshalas.
The High Court had appointed a committee headed by L C Jain in December 2005 to look into the affairs of the goshalas.
