Leh first district in J

Srinagar, Oct 4 (UNI) Leh has become the first district in Jammu and Kashmir to launch the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), an official spokesmam said today.

Under the programme, he said the Ladakhi women were being deployed as health workers and would be called as Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs).

Instead of salary, these women will be given incentives on their working capacity, the spokesman added.

He said the recruitment process of ASHAs in Leh district has already started and so far 214 have been selected and their training commenced from September.

The NRHM seeks to provide effective health-care to rural population throughout the country with special focus on 18 states, including Jammu and Kashmir, which have poor public health indicators and infrastructure.
